  • ProgramEmerging Media - Health Communication

As a flight nurse, Stephanie is striving to integrate her background in health care with Loyola’s Emerging Media program, specializing in Health Communication, to reduce misinformation and inform the public during the pandemic. Originally from Harrisburg, Pa., she now lives in Williamsport, Pa., and she received her B.S. in Nursing with a minor in psychology from the Pennsylvania College of Technology. Stephanie holds a MSN from Duquesne University and is a Prehospital Registered Nurse licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Health. She hopes to utilize her knowledge from the Emerging Media program to “better communicate to the public health needs of my audience.” She sees the program’s potential to help her to “amplify my voice and develop solutions to bring health care to the comfort of my audience’s home.” Through the support and encouragement of faculty, Stephanie designed an app for development based on the needs of her patients. She is grateful to Greg Hoplamazian, Ph.D., associate professor of communication, as a mentor integral to her development: “He showed great compassion to me as a health care worker during the COVID-19 pandemic. I felt seen as more than a student but as a person.” Stephanie strongly recommends the Emerging Media program: “Come with an open mind, open heart, and a willing spirit, and your education will inspire and uplift you to do great things.”

Throughout my program, I've felt like the faculty were my teammates. They are collaborators and facilitators in my education rather than lecturers. There is genuine care for my success and well-being.
