The Theta Chi chapter of the Beta Beta Beta (Tri-Beta) Biological Honor Society is much more than just an Honor Society. Our members not only excel in their classwork, but they are also involved in a number of activities on campus. For the past few years, we have done a Swipe for the Cure, raising thousands of dollars for Breast Cancer Research. We are also responsible for peer tutoring—Tri-Beta members tutor the biology introductory sequence at Loyola (Cellular and Molecular Biology, Organismal Biology, and Ecology, Evolution, and Biodiversity). We conduct a lab day in the fall and spring, where students ranging from Elementary to High School come to our labs and do some simple experiments to see what makes biology so great! Tri-Beta members are involved in myriad of other activities around campus.

Many of our members conduct research at Loyola and some have spent their summers doing research at prestigious institutions such as Johns Hopkins and the National Institutes of Health.

In the Theta Chi chapter of Beta Beta Beta, we display the three key purposes of this organization. Those purposes are: “To promote scholarship in the biological sciences, to promote the dissemination of biological knowledge, and to encourage research”. If you are interested in joining Tri-Beta, we would love to have you! The requirements for induction are a 3.3 GPA across at least three biology courses. The introductory courses do count. In order to receive a cord at graduation, members must show continued academic excellence, demonstrated by maintenance of at least a 3.3 GPA. Sophomores, juniors, and seniors are all welcome to apply for induction.
