Loyola University Maryland

Graduate Program in Liberal Studies

Registration Information

Course Selection

Typically four or five courses will be offered in the fall and spring semesters and one or two in each of the two summer terms. At least one course in each of the three distribution categories (thematic, historical, and creative) will usually be offered each semester, but not necessarily at every location. At least one course per semester or summer term will be offered as a hybrid online/classroom course.

Class Scheduling

Liberal Studies courses meet once a week for fifteen weeks during the fall and spring semesters and twice a week for six weeks during the two summer terms. Courses are scheduled Monday through Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings. Evening courses run 6:30–9:00 (6:00–9:00 in summer); Saturday morning offerings are 9:30 to noon. Classes in the Liberal Studies Program are offered on the Baltimore campus, at the Loyola Business Center in Columbia, and at the Graduate Center in Timonium. Some courses are hybrid courses, which will be taught both online and face-to-face.

The Registration Process

New Students: Ordinarily new students register at the mandatory New Student Orientation or during a personal advising session with the Program Director or the Director of Program Operations in advance of Orientation each semester. All entering students must complete the orientation process

Continuing Students: Continuing students can register online through WebAdvisor or by mail. Liberal Studies does not set aside times for in-person registration.

Course Limits & Closed Courses

All Liberal Studies courses are strictly limited to fifteen students. Only the director can override those limits but does not ordinarily do so. Some courses fill earlier than others. Students are therefore encouraged to make their selection and enroll early in the registration period.
