ALANA Services Overnight Program – April 13, 2018

Event Description

Loyola is committed to creating a community of diversity, equity and inclusion for all students. The ALANA (African, Latino, Asian, and Native American) Services Overnight Program is designed to share this with you and your family, and to emphasize the variety of resources and programs available to multicultural students. During your visit, you will also have the opportunity to meet and speak with Loyola students, faculty, and staff. After the day concludes, students will spend the night with one of our current students to get a first-look at life as a Greyhound. Families will then reconnect on Saturday morning before the Accepted Student Open House.

These events are reserved specifically for accepted high school seniors who self-identify as a student of color, and their families. This year we are anticipating between 70-120 guests on campus.

Below, you will find a tentative schedule for the day. Families are encouraged to join their students for the duration of the day, except where noted:

  • 10:15 a.m. - Check-in begins
  • 10:30 a.m. - Welcome Program
  • 11:00 a.m. - Students attend class on campus while parents attend a Financial Aid Q&A
  • Noon - Students and families enjoy a buffet lunch with members of our community
  • 12:45 p.m. - ALANA Services Presentation
  • 1:30 p.m. - Guided campus tour
  • 2:45 p.m. - Tours end and families depart campus
  • 3:00 p.m. - Students meet their hosts and ALANA Services programming begins

Student Visitor Overnight Contract

Upon arrival, you will be asked to sign a Student Visitor Overnight Contract outlining the terms and conditions of your overnight stay. On this document, we will ask for emergency contact information for you and at least one (1) parent/guardian.

This form must be completed and returned to a member of the Undergraduate Admission or ALANA Services staff before you will be authorized to stay overnight.

What should you bring?

After the day's events you will be paired with your overnight host for the rest of your stay. Throughout the evening you will engage in ALANA programming, enjoy dinner in Boulder Garden Café with your host and their friends, explore campus, and spend the night in your host's residence hall room. Additional activities may include visiting the Fitness and Aquatic Center (FAC), attending a home game, an improv show, or an a Capella concert, or simply hanging out in your host's room. Ultimately, we hope that you gain an understanding of what life is like as a Loyola Greyhound on the Evergreen campus.

With this in mind, we recommend bringing the following items to make your stay more comfortable:

  • Sleeping bag/blanket and pillow
  • Personal toiletries, towel, and any medication you may need
  • Comfortable clothing and footwear
