Dr. Edwin Mayorga, Assistant Professor of Educational Studies at Swarthmore College to deliver the lecture "Race Radicalism at the School Community Nexus" on Wednesday, Nov. 29 at 6:45 p.m. in McGuire Hall. Dr. Mayorga will also address the issues of racial capitalism and its presence in a range of policy and reform strategies in education and community development. He'll explore questions surrounding racial capitalism and will draw from his Philadelphia school and community partnerships study to present elements of this framework to deepen collective understanding of its effects on urban education.
About the Speaker
Edwin Mayorga is a parent, educator, scholar-activist. He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Educational Studies and the Program in Latin American and Latino Studies at Swarthmore College (PA).
His work centers primarily on cultural political economic perspectives on urbanism, urban education policy, Latinx education, digital social science, and teaching for social justice. He is founder and lead researcher of the Education in our Barrios (#BarrioEdProj) in Philadelphia (@BarrioEdPHL) and New York City (@BarrioEdProj) which is a youth, participatory action research (YPAR) collaborative whose goal is to work with and for youth in urban, Latinx core communities.
