Our Initiatives

The CIUE is dedicated to honoring urban youth and communities by developing projects that improve the educational experiences of urban youth and creating a community of teachers, learners, and scholars. This commitment to educational equity in schools in urban communities has resulted in the following collaborative initiatives:

CIUE Speaker Series

The CIUE speaker series has brought to Baltimore in recent years important urban education scholars like Pedro Noguera, Gloria Ladson-Billings, and Adrienne Dixon.

CIUE Event Series

The CIUE events series have joined the CIUE together with Baltimore schools and organizations that have positive impacts on students in Baltimore city, organizations such as Maryland State Department of Education, Baltimore City Public Schools, the Enoch Pratt Free Library, Wide Angle Youth Media, Dew More Baltimore, etc.

The Institute for Urban Catholic Education (IUCE)

With funding from the Raskob Foundation and Archdiocese of Baltimore, the IUCE seeks to strengthen partnerships with high-need urban Catholic schools; develop a model of excellence for future partnerships; and disseminate scholarship on effective teaching and leadership, locally and nationally.
