Graduate Student Assistant (direct hire)

Hours & Wages

  • 15 hours a week to be worked Monday – Thursday between 9 am – 7 pm and Friday 9 am – 5 pm (exact schedule to be determined)
  • $16 – 17 per hour


    • Strong interpersonal skills

    • Experience working with diverse populations, especially students with disabilities

    • Excellent organizational skills

    • Clear written and oral communication skills

    • Demonstrated problem solving abilities

    • Ability to maintain confidentiality


     Familiarity and experience with electronic information technology



  • The Graduate Student Assistant in DSS is expected to:

    • Assist students registering with DSS, by providing information about DSS and the process for requesting accommodations
    • Utilize the DSS database to prepare exam requests and print the exams proctored by DSS as well as assist with the oversight for the return of exams
    • Proctor exams and assist with oversight of undergraduate proctors
    • Reply to students emails on behalf of DSS staff related to their exam requests, books in alt format and their notetaking accommodation
    • Assist with the fulfillment of notetaking requests and monitor the notetaking assignments periodically throughout semester.
    • Compile orders for notetaking thank you gifts at the end of semester – either sweatshirts or gift cards
    • Secure books in alternate format (e-text) for students with this accommodation.This includes contacting publishers and investigating publisher information when it is unknown to request an e-text copy
    • Review emails in two generic accounts daily to determine which staff member should handle each email or reply as representative of office to professor or student inquiries
    • Attend weekly staff meetings
    • Assist with disability awareness activities
