Campus Safety FAQ

Loyola is committed to the safety of its students and employees. If at any time you do not feel safe, call Public Safety at 410-617-5911.

What is Loyola doing to address crime near the campus?

The safety of our students, faculty, staff, and administrators is our top priority. Public Safety actions to strengthen the safety of the Evergreen campus include:
  • Dedicated campus police officers in and around Rahner Village 24 hours a day, with the addition of Baltimore City Police officers who work for Loyola patrolling the area during hours of darkness to 4 a.m.
  • Increased surveillance of Rahner Village 24 hours a day on CCTV cameras in Public Safety headquarters.
  • Increased police presence with additional patrols and officer support to Rahner Village, Notre Dame Lane, and the Ahern and McAuley Halls areas.
  • Police escorts when student escorts are not available.
  • Dispatchers will immediately send officers to Rahner Village to investigate propped-door alarms.
  • A lighting study is being conducted to identify areas of the campus that may be too dark or could use additional lighting.
  • A perimeter study is also underway to determine areas where fencing, gates, or natural barriers may be added for added security.

How can I receive notifications and safety alerts?

Greyhound Alerts provide members of the Loyola community with relevant, timely information so they can make decisions and take actions that will ensure their health and safety during an incident. All students are automatically enrolled. If you are not a student, visit the Greyhound Alerts website for more information and to sign up. If you believe you have already signed up and did not receive an alert, or if you received an error message, contact Jocelyn Kelley at jzakelley@loyola.edu

How do I know where the shuttles are?

You can track Loyola’s shuttles in real time by downloading the Double Map app to your phone. You can also view shuttle routes, hours of operation, and schedules on the Shuttle Service website

Why can't I drive my car on the access road on campus rather than taking York Road?

The road is one-lane and reserved for service vehicles only. Opening the road would violate the current community partnership agreement and open the road to more traffic.

What if I don't feel safe walking back to my residence hall or other areas on campus?

The Department of Public Safety offers security escorts on or adjacent to the main campus. Security escorts are a point-to-point service that may involve walking with an officer or riding in a patrol vehicle to your destination. Other transportation services can be found on the Parking and Transportation website.

How can I stay safe off campus?

While Loyola consistently takes measures to ensure safety on and near campus, there are areas beyond the campus's footprint that are outside the University's jurisdiction. For a list of safety tips, please visit the Safety Tips website
