Assistant Director of Recreation and Wellness
Jen Cusick joined the Loyola University Maryland Department of Recreation and Wellness in December 2016 as the Assistant Director of Outdoor Adventures. Jen is responsible for planning, implementation, development, and training for Loyola’s Outdoor Adventure programming including the wilderness trips, outdoor student leaders, teambuilding programs for the campus community, and oversight of the Rockwall and its staff.
Originally from New Jersey, Jen earned her B.S. Urban Environmental Studies from Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA. It was during this time that Jen became involved in experiential learning through both urban farm education and outdoor leadership opportunities. Since completing her undergraduate work, Jen went on to work for both Philadelphia and Baltimore Chesapeake Bay Outward Bound Schools. At her time with Outward Bound, Jen served as a field instructor, a trainer, a climbing specialist, and Course Director of Expeditions. Here, Jen was able to hone in her skills and passions to help students connect lessons from the woods back into everyday settings. Jen feels strongly that everyone can and should have an opportunity to learn what they are capable of through a natural, experiential setting.
Outside of work, Jen finds ways to explore Baltimore and beyond. She can be found working in her community garden, exploring Baltimore green spaces with her dog Sage, or riding her bike in search of good food. Jen also is passionate about the Chesapeake Bay. She looks for all opportunities to paddle and explore our country's largest estuary. She is currently working towards her M.A. in Emerging Media.
