Kara Hunter

Assistant Director of Recreation and Wellness
(Competitive Sports)

Kara Hunter joined the Loyola University Maryland Department of Recreation and Wellness in June of 2017 as the Assistant Director of Competitive Sports. Kara hails from the great “buckeye state” where she completed her undergraduate education at The Ohio State University, with a degree in Counseling Psychology in 2015.  She then earned her Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration, with a concentration in collegiate athletics, from North Carolina State University in 2017.  During her time at NC State, Kara served in dual capacities with both University Housing and University Recreation.  She also obtained an internship with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill performing research and assessment for their Campus Recreation Sport Programs Department.

Kara has also become very involved in the world of NIRSA, presenting research at both the Region II and National conferences in 2016 and 2017.  She also has officiated at NIRSA Championship Series Region II Basketball tournaments, and served on the tournament staff for the national tournament at The Ohio State University in 2017.  She looks to continue to grow in her officiating career in Baltimore and hopes to inspire young officials to find passion “behind the whistle.”

Kara is a major Ohio State fan and can be seen in her jersey every Saturday in the fall.  She also enjoys an active lifestyle, including running and playing tennis.  A major foodie and coffee connoisseur, she loves navigating a city based on what she has a taste for that day.  Kara is always up for a new adventure, especially if it means being surrounded by friends and family.
