Associate Director of Recreational Sports
(Programs and Facilities)
Alan Baker joined the Loyola University Maryland Department of Recreational Sports in July of 2012 as the Associate Director and oversees all aspects of programming and the facility for the Department. Alan works directly with Outdoor Adventure Experience Student Leaders and with the Assistant Director of Outdoor Adventures, the Assistant Director of Competitive Sports, and the Assistant Director of Fitness and Wellness to ensure high quality programming and a student-centered experience.
Originally from Maryland, Alan completed his Bachelors Degree in Recreation and Leisure Services at Radford University in Virginia and earned his Masters Degree from Loyola University Maryland in School Counseling. Early in his career, Alan worked at Gettysburg College as an administrator for the Office of Experiential Education and later went on to work for the Hurricane Island Outward Bound School as a wilderness instructor, rock specialist, course director, and Associate Program Director. Before starting at Loyola, Alan owned a general contracting business in Oakland, California honing both his affinity for customer service and also his appreciation of architectural design.
Drawing on both experiential education philosophies and his knowledge of physical buildings, Alan embraces his dual role of overseeing both programs and facilities. When not busy ensuring that the FAC is at its best, Alan is likely conjuring up new programming ideas with Outdoor Adventure student leaders or working with Group Exercise instructors to ensure their program delivery is second to none.
In his spare time, Alan can be found either remodeling his home or seeking out the next family adventure with his wife, Kristin and their kids, Maeve and Oscar.
