Directions for applicants:
- Read the RA Job Description.
- Schedule a meeting with a member of Financial Aid to discuss how accepting the Resident Assistant position will affect your total financial aid package.
- Prepare a .pdf version of your cover letter and resume.
- If you need any assistance in drafting a resume or cover letter, The Career Center is available for tips and consultation.
- Prepare a .pdf version of short essay responses to the following prompts:
Responses to both of these questions should be typed in 12 point font, 1" margins, double spaced and your total responses should be no more than 3 pages in length
- Name and explore two important issues/problems facing Loyola University Maryland students. As an RA, how would you help students confront these issues?
- Compose a letter for your future residents welcoming them to the community. At minimum your letter should include:
- An introduction of yourself
- An explanation of your role as an RA
- The attitudes, behaviors, and relationships you hope to see develop in your community
- What you hope your residents will learn during the course of their time in your community
- Other information to welcome residents to the community
- Complete the online application by December 2, 2016 at 5:00PM.
Deadlines for applying to be an RA for the 2017-2018 Academic Year
- Applications (including resume, cover letter, and short essay responses) are due by December 2, 2016 at 5:00PM.
RAs serve as catalysts in developing a sense of community on the floor and residential area while working with the concerns of an individual or group of students. The RA must have good judgment, strength of character, a strong sense of responsibility, and sensitivity to an understanding the needs of a diverse group of individuals. As well as:
- Have a minimum 2.5 grade point average (GPA), both cumulative and the semester prior to applying.
- Have lived on campus for at least two semesters OR obtain sophomore status by the start of employment.
- Maintain full time student status while in the position
- Have been a student at Loyola for at least one full semester by the start of employment.
- Satisfactorily complete and submit the application by the stated deadlines.
- Complete the selection process as scheduled and/or requested to do so.
- Be in good financial standing and conduct with the college.

Financial Aid Considerations
Your compensation package for your work as a staff member is considered as earned income, which means that there are implications in terms of financial aid. If you receive financial aid, this is considered as part of your financial aid package and could affect other sources of income such as loans, grants, and other types of aid. We urge you to contact a financial aid counselor to discuss how a staff position might impact your financial aid package before making the decision to apply.
