Tree Replacement Master Plan

Trees in front of Humanities buildingIn 2005, a thorough evaluation was conducted of all trees in the Academic Quadrangle, the site of the primary arboretum for the walking tour. Following this evaluation, a master plan was developed to replace trees that had been, or soon would be, removed due to age related deterioration or disease. This project coincided with the loss of two very old American Elms due to Dutch Elm disease.

The tree replacement plan has been completed with the planted of 27 trees in the Quadrangle, many of which were relatively large caliper trees. The plan is to have young, but fairly mature, trees in place before older ones are lost to age.
