Loyola University Maryland’s School of Education will offer a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) with teacher certification cohort with independent schools beginning Fall 2018.
Independent school teachers with a broad liberal arts bachelor’s degree or major in a specific subject area below may choose from one of our pathways to initial teacher certification:
- Elementary Education (Grades 1-6)
Secondary Education (Grades 7-12): Biology, Chemistry, Earth/Space Science, Math, Physics, English, and Social Studies
Secondary Education (Grades (PK-12): Art, Spanish, French, and Music (Vocal or Instrumental)

Loyola will waive your $60 application fee
Two-year program beginning Fall 2018 and concluding Spring 2020
Courses in Timonium and Baltimore
Students are eligible for payment plans and graduate financial aid
Most candidates complete clinical experiences in their own school settings
Grounded in Jesuit principles, this program’s coursework engages students in a critical analysis of educational processes at the classroom, school, and community level. Loyola's MAT program has been approved by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE).
