  • Founding Director of the Institute Kaye Wise Whitehead, Ph.D., associate professor of communication and African American Studies, receives the Regional Edward R. Murrow Award, Leaders in Diversity Award from the BBJ, and Chesapeake AP Broadcasters Association Award for diversity, equity, and inclusion work.
  • An inaugural doctoral fellow, María T. Colompos-Tohtsonie, who is studying Educational Leadership and Policy at Texas Tech University, will assist the Institute with initiatives and ongoing racial justice efforts. She will begin her fellowship with the Institute in June 2021.
  • On October 28, 2020, a virtual reception was held to celebrate the launch of The Karson Institute for Race, Peace, and Social Justice.
