Students participating in fall events

Below is an outline of what you can expect and the schedule is subject to change. Students will receive specific information just prior to the start of the program.

All aspects of Fall Welcome Weekend are mandatory unless otherwise noted.

Thursday, August 27 

Time Program
12:00 p.m. - 2:45 p.m.

Small Group Meetings
This meeting is where you will first meet your Messina Mentor and Evergreen. This will be a chance to get to know the members of your Messina group as well as to walk through the schedule and expectations for the weekend. 
This meeting will be 75 minutes in length and students will be divided into groups based on their Messina placement. 

3:00 p.m. - 3:45 p.m.

New Student Convocation (live stream)
The Class of 2024 will be introduced and inducted into the Loyola University Maryland community. The link to the live stream will be available so that parents and family members can join us for this annual event.

8:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.
Late Night Programming
We will have a variety of activities that will offer you a chance to socialize with your peers and engage with the Loyola community.

Friday, August 28

Time Program
11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Common Text Panel (live stream)
We welcome you, Loyola’s newest scholars-in-residence, to our intellectual community by examining a text common to all of us. During this session, members of our Loyola community will reflect on Dear America: Notes of an Undocumented Citizen by Jose Antonio Vargas.
12:15 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Core Advisor Meeting and Common Text Discussions
You’ve read the book and you’ve tackled the study guide. Now it’s time to discuss what you’ve learned with your Messina advisor and new classmates. Other important information about classes and the advising process will also be covered.
This meeting will be 75 minutes in length and students will be divided into groups based on their Messina placement.

3:15 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Community Information Session (live stream)
This session will cover general community expectations and what it means to be a member of the larger Loyola community.

4:15 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Small Group Meetings
After learning more about the Loyola community, you’ll meet with your Evergreen group to process what you’ve heard and what your role in the community will be.
8:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. Late Night Programming
We will have a variety of activities that will offer you a chance to socialize with your peers and engage with the Loyola community.

Saturday, August 29

Time Program
 All Day The day has been set aside for students to review required, pre-recorded videos. Topics include academic and student support, academic integrity, mission and values, and community expectations.
2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. Academic Interest Sessions
Many departments are holding open houses and we also have information sessions designed to help you in your academic transition to our university. We have options for you whether you are considering particular fields of study, pre-professional pathways, or are unsure of your path!
8:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. Late Night Programming
We will have a variety of activities that will offer you a chance to socialize with your peers and engage with the Loyola community.

Sunday, August 30

Time Program
2:00 p.m. - 4:15 p.m.

Small Group Meetings
This discussion will be your final opportunity to meet with your Messina group and Evergreen before classes begin. This meeting will be 60 minutes in length and you will be assigned a specific time based on your small group assignment.

4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.

New Student Liturgy (live stream)
We invite students and their families to join in for our weekly Sunday Liturgy.
