Schedule

All aspects of the orientation program are required for students. Depending on the particular schedule for an individual student, departure times on Day Two can vary. Please make travel plans leaving ample time to ensure your attendance throughout the program. Students and registered guests will receive a detailed schedule upon arrival to orientation. All times and session information are subject to change.

2019 Student Schedule: Day One

Time  Student Program
9:00 - 11:00 a.m. Check-in
This will take place in Flannery O'Connor Hall. Students (and registered guests) will receive a folder of information in addition to this year’s common text, Heartland: A Memoir of Working Hard and Being Broke in the Richest Country on Earth by Sarah Smarsh. If possible, following check-in students and family members staying on-campus should take their belongings to their rooms before heading off to sessions.
9:45 - 11:30 a.m.

Academic Browsing
This will be an opportunity to meet various faculty members for insight into the curriculum on campus. 

10:15 – 11:05 a.m. Campus Involvement and Messina 
A chance to learn more about the various Pre-Fall Programs as well as Messina.
10:45 a.m. – Noon Lunch
Noon – 1:00 p.m. Welcome Session for Students and Families
This session is the official beginning to the Summer Orientation program.
1:00 – 2:15 p.m. Evergreen Small Group Time
Meet up with your Evergreen leader and the rest of your orientation group.
2:20 – 3:50 p.m. Your Academic Foundation & Meeting with Core Advisors
This session will give an overview of the core curriculum at Loyola as well as to work individually with a faculty member who will help you to select your courses for the fall semester.
4:00 – 5:15 p.m. New Student Meet & Greet
Get caught up and compare notes before the evening events begin.
5:30 – 6:00 p.m. Evening Prayer in the Chapel
This is a non-denominational prayer service open to all faith backgrounds.
6:15 – 7:00 p.m. Living at Loyola (Housing and Community Information)
Learn more about what it means to live in the Loyola community. This session will describe the housing process and give students a better understanding of the options they may choose from and the expectations for them in the residence halls.
7:00 – 8:00 p.m. Dinner
8:00 – 9:30 p.m. Realities of College Life
An honest look at some of the ups and downs of college life.
9:30 – 11:30 p.m. Evening entertainment

2019 Student Schedule: Day Two

7:00 – 8:30 a.m. Continental Breakfast
8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Course Registration, Strong Truths About Loyola Session,
Group time with your Evergreen, Housing
Preference, Meal Plan Selection, Student ID photos & Lunch

Each group will follow a different schedule through these activities to allow for individual attention these processes. Unfortunately, there isn't an opportunity to find out an individual student’s advising appointment prior to arrival on campus, so we ask that you don't plan to leave campus before 3pm.
Noon – 1:30 p.m.

A Glimpse of Loyola: First-Year Fair & Lunch
A chance to learn more about special programs, organizations, and offices that may interest students and parents during their time at Loyola.

3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. Departure

2019 Parent & Family Schedule: Day One

9:00 - 11:00 a.m. Check-in
This will take place in Avila Hall. If possible, following check-in students and family members staying on campus should take their belongings to their rooms before heading off to sessions.
 9:45 - 11:30 a.m. Academic Browsing

10:15 – 11:05 a.m. Pre-Session on Campus Involvement and Messina 
A chance to learn more about the various Pre-Fall programs as well as Messina.
10:45 a.m. – Noon Lunch
Noon – 1:00 p.m. Welcome Session for Students & Families 
This session is the official beginning to the Summer Orientation program.
1:00 – 1:20 p.m. For Parents Only
This time is set aside for parents to complete the “New Student Survey” which will offer data and conversation topics on our second day of orientation.
1:20 – 1:40 p.m. Coffee Break
1:40 – 2:00 p.m. Parenting a Greyhound
Members of the Loyola community will address various issues surrounding communication and safety. 
2:00 - 2:50 p.m. Managing the Roller Coaster Ride of Your Student's First Year
Administrators will discuss the developmental changes that students confront and offer advice to parents. 
3:00 - 4:50 p.m.  Information Sessions
A variety of subjects designed to help you as parents to better understand the opportunities and challenges involved for incoming students to Loyola, as well as the support available across the campus. Topics covered will include: Housing an Campus Services, Academic Resources, Study Abroad Programs, Facilitating the Success of an ALANA (African, Latino, Asian, Native American) Student, Disability Support, and more.
4:50 – 5:15 p.m. Parent Meet & Greet
Get caught up and compare notes before the evening events begin.
5:30 – 6:00 p.m. Evening Prayer
6:00 – 7:00 p.m. Dinner with other parents and families 
A relaxing chance to enjoy a meal and visit with other parents and families. Students will attend a separate dinner with their orientation group. 
7:00 – 9:00 p.m. A Sweet Way to End the Day
Dessert and entertainment just for the parents and families. Students will attend separate evening programs with their orientation group.

7:00 – 8:30 a.m. Check out for on-campus accommodations & Continental Breakfast
8:00 – 8:30 a.m. Daily Mass
8:45 – 10:00 a.m. Billing and Financial Aid Information Sessions
A chance to talk in-depth about the financial options for supporting a Loyola education.
10:15 – 12:00 p.m. Realities of College Life, Administrator Panel, and Closing Program 
A creative look at many challenges students face at Loyola followed by a panel discussion with Loyola administrators.
Noon – 1:30 p.m. A Glimpse of Loyola: First-Year Fair & Lunch
A chance to learn more about special programs, organizations, and offices that may interest students and parents during their time at Loyola.
