OUTLoyola Responds to the Federal Effort to Redefine Gender

Transgender pride flag image OUTLoyola, a collaborative of LGBTQPIA+ and ally faculty, staff, and administration at Loyola University Maryland, recognizes and affirms the transgender and gender non-conforming members of our campus, community, and society. We are aware of the negative impact the current Administration’s and Health and Human Services’ proposed rule change to re-define gender has on mental and physical health, and how it would limit the ability to get proper medical care.

These proposed changes are destructive both directly and indirectly to us all. In these difficult times we look to our core values of Care for the Whole Person, People for and with Others, Leadership, Justice, Inclusion and Diversity to help us become better allies to this community. We are committed to preserving the humanity and dignity of transgender and gender nonconforming college students, faculty, and staff who would experience further oppression by narrowing the definition of gender to a biological, birth condition. We vehemently oppose these changes and stand with transgender and gender nonconforming people, their families, friends, colleagues and communities.

We invite you to show your support of the transgender community by joining students, faculty, staff and administrators at the Transgender Solidarity Demonstration on November 2nd at 2PM on the Quad (Rain location: CIE).
