General Questions

Is Summer Orientation mandatory?

Summer Orientation is strongly encouraged as it is the only time to register in-person for classes, submit housing requests, and attend important information sessions and programs that will assist you with your transition to Loyola.

What if I am not able to attend any of the sessions?

If you are unable to attend a Summer Orientation session, you will need to email orientation@loyola.edu in order for the office of student engagement to send the materials from orientation, contact the office of student life (410-617-5081) to make housing requests and the Academic Advising & Support Center (410-617-5050) to speak to an advisor and select your fall classes.

Orientation Registration Questions

Can I register for Orientation by phone?

No, unfortunately we are unable to accept phone reservations. Registrations must be completed online.

Will I be able to get my first choice?

Though we do our best, we are not always able to accommodate students’ first choice for orientation dates. We recommend that you sign up for orientation as soon as you can. This will improve your chances of getting into a particular session.

Does it matter which session I attend?

No, it doesn't. All of our orientation sessions are exactly the same and you will have the same chance to register for classes and housing no matter when you attend.

Where do I find my Loyola user name and password for online registration?

Your username and password will be sent to your personal email address by our Office of Technology Support within 7-10 business days after we receive your class deposit. If you have more questions about this or cannot locate that email, please call 410-617-5555 between the hours of 7:30 a.m. - 7 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 7:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Friday. Please note that the student needs to call for the username and password; that information can't be given to parents.

Orientation Program Details

What time is check-in?

Check-in begins at 9 a.m. and concludes at 11 a.m. You will receive directions to the check-in location, Avila Hall, in a second confirmation email, about a week before your confirmed session.

Where do we park?

Parking is provided for all students and guests on the west side of campus located near Avila Hall. Orientation staff and Public Safety officers will direct you upon arrival.

Where do students and families stay overnight?

Students and family members are housed in the residence halls overnight. Students will be asked to share a room for the night with another incoming student. Due to the number of families attending, parents and guests may need to share a suite with another family. However, private bedrooms and bathrooms are provided.

Do most parents stay overnight on campus?

Many do choose to stay on campus if they need overnight accommodations. However, if you would prefer to stay at a local hotel, please refer to the recommended hotel list.

What do I need to bring along?

Some items to bring along may include an alarm clock, toiletries, comfortable shoes, and extra towels. Linens are provided.

What is the dress for the two days?

Casual clothing in layers is suggested for both students and guests. While the days are generally quite warm outside, the session rooms often feel cool by comparison.

Will I register for my classes and for housing?

Yes, during Summer Orientation all students will register for Fall classes and submit housing requests.

Do parents/family members attend the registration appointments with their son/daughter?

No. Students attend the advising appointments by themselves. This is an important step for the students to take by themselves as they begin to make their Loyola education their own.

Will I receive my Fall courses schedule while I am here for orientation?

Yes, schedules will be distributed after students register for classes.

What time does orientation end?

The second day of orientation usually comes to an end mid-afternoon. You should plan to be on campus until 4 p.m. in case the advising process takes longer than expected. Please do not make travel plans that would require you to leave campus before that time.

What is the cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel, please call 410-617-2032. Cancellations must be made three business days prior to the orientation session in which you are registered. Please allow approximately two weeks for a refund. The full refund will be returned to the student, in the form of a check.
