Walt Disney World Resort Senior VP Claire Bilby to deliver the 2017 DeFrancis Lecture
Claire Bilby, senior vice president of sales and services at Walt Disney World® Resort in Florida, will deliver the 2017 DeFrancis Lecture at Loyola University Maryland’s Sellinger School of Business and Management on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 6 p.m. in McGuire Hall. The DeFrancis Lecture, presented by M&T Bank, brings leaders in business who demonstrate entrepreneurial spirit and who are of interest to the academic, business, and civic communities.
The topic of the lecture will be the creation, history and nature of the iconic Disney guest experience at Walt Disney World Resort and other Disney destinations around the globe. Walt Disney World, which opened in 1971, is widely acknowledged as the world’s premier family vacation destination. Today, it is home to four theme parks, two water parks, five golf courses, 27-owned-and-operated resorts and hundreds of merchandise and dining experiences.
Bilby began her career with Walt Disney Parks and Resorts in 1988 and has held various executive leadership positions around the world. In her current role, she leads several businesses including Disney Institute, Event Services, Park Event Operations, Travel Operations, Group Sales and Marketing, Weddings, Disney Special Activities, and Disney Floral and Gifts.
Prior to her current position, Bilby served as senior vice president of sales and marketing for Disneyland Paris, in which she oversaw all Walt Disney Parks and Resorts marketing and sales efforts across Europe.
Claire formerly served as senior vice president and general manager of Disney Vacation Club—Disney’s exclusive vacation-ownership program—and as senior vice president of distribution marketing and Asia Pacific sales, which is responsible for all sales-channel marketing for Walt Disney World, Disneyland Resort, Disney Cruise Line, Walt Disney Travel Company, Adventures by Disney, and Disney Institute.
Throughout her Disney career, Claire has overseen domestic and international sales teams. She is credited with helping launch several Disney theme parks including Hong Kong Disneyland, Disney’s Hollywood Studios (formerly Disney’s MGM Studios), Disneyland Paris, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, and Disney California Adventure.
