The Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Loyola to host launch week

The Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship (CI&E) will host a community launch week on the Evergreen campus from Nov. 12-16, 2018. The CI&E Launch Week will feature pop-up interactive innovation exercises, discussions, speakers, activities, and other events to engage the Loyola and Baltimore communities with the new Center.
Wendy Bolger was hired as the Center’s founding director in July. The Center, which is student-led and student-driven, supports students, faculty, and the local Baltimore community to start, scale, and grow their own businesses and social ventures.
“The Launch Week is a way to introduce the Center to the community and to spark our creativity to think about how what we do at Loyola can be part of building a more innovative culture on campus,” Bolger said.
All CI&E Launch Week events are free and are open to the public. Events include:
- Sophomore SGA Presents: The Career Discovery Forum. A networking event and panel conducted by the Career Center on exploring your passions and developing skills for a diverse and ever-changing world. Get insight and advice from alumni working in Innovation & Entrepreneurship careers on Monday, Nov. 12, from 6 - 7:30 p.m. The panel will feature notable alumni Greg DiNardo ’13, Alex Bullington ’14, and Kate McGrain ’09. The event is free and open to the public.
- Loyola’s own select cohort of University Innovation Fellows will provide students with information about this national network of innovators who train at Stanford’s d. School on Tuesday, Nov. 13, from, 12:15-1:15 p.m. in Boulder.
- The Robotics Club will be demonstrating their latest creation outside Boulder Café on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at noon and at the Loyola/Notre Dame Library on Friday, Nov. 16, at 3 p.m.
- Iggy’s Launch Pad is a fun, drop-in, interactive activity happening Wednesday, Nov. 14, during lunch, and all-day Thursday, Nov. 15, and Friday, Nov. 16, in the glass luncheon room in Boulder 2.0 with Bridget Parlato of Full Circuit Studio/Baltimore Trash Talk. Drop by, practice being a maker, and show us your inner innovator.
- TedX-like storytelling evening will feature Laurin Leonard of Mission: Launch and R3 Score, Charlie Taibi, '10, CEO of Year On, and Luke Cooper, CEO and founder of Fixt, followed by a panel and discussion, on Wednesday, Nov. 14, from 6 - 8 p.m., in McGuire Hall. A reception with light refreshments will follow.
- A Paper Engineering pop-up class will be taught by Suzanne Keilson, Ph.D., assistant professor of engineering, on Thursday, Nov. 15, from 5 - 7 p.m. in Loyola/Notre Dame Library Innovation Station. No experience necessary.
- The Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship Hack-a-thon will take place on Thursday, Nov. 15, from 5 - 9 p.m. at the Collaboratory, Cyber Café, and Innovation Station spaces in the Loyola/Notre Dame Library. Students, alumni, faculty, staff, and community members are invited to participate in a facilitated exercise in user-centered design, co-creating alongside a community organization to develop a “hack” that addresses a social problem in Baltimore.
Throughout the week, Artesanos Don Bosco, a Peruvian social venture, will display pieces made in the Andes, with an opening reception in the Ferguson Gallery in the Loyola/Notre Dame Library. The Innovation as Metamorphosis display of student art will feature a series of works using hybrid technologies including 3D printing and wood sculpture, and digital images transferred on glass plates. Members of the Loyola community will also have the opportunity to answer, “How Might We?” questions displayed on “Innovation Pillars” between Starbucks and Boulder Café on Loyola’s campus.
