Biography 

Quinn K. Smelser, M.A., NCC, LPC, RPT is a Clinical Assistant professor of School Counseling and the Clinical Coordinator of Loyola University’s School Counseling Program. She has specialized training in play therapy and trauma. Clinically, Quinn’s has worked in residential treatment, public school systems, and in private practice with children, adolescents, and families who have experienced trauma. She has published book chapters and articles on play therapy, family therapy, ethical practice, animal-assisted counseling, and spirituality. Quinn presents at conferences nationally on issues relating to ethical practice, child-centered play therapy, trauma informed care for children, LGBT and gender identity, grief and loss, and spirituality. Previously, Quinn has taught as adjunct faculty at The George Washing University and led professional workshops on trauma and play therapy in Texas and the Mid-Atlantic Region.

Research Interest 

Teaching and research interests include parenting behaviors, efficacy of play therapy for complex trauma, disruptive/maladaptive behaviors in schools, play therapy in schools, and intergenerational trauma.
