Karyl Leggio, Ph.D.

  • Academic Focus Finance

Karyl Leggio, Ph.D., professor of finance, enjoys working at Loyola because of the reflection and freedom to discuss a wide range of topics. “We use the Jesuit-based education to focus upon what is best for stakeholders, not just what is best for shareholders in the short term,” says Dr. Leggio, who uses student-created companies and real-world examples to enhance her students’ experience in her classroom. She also incorporates cura personalis into her teaching to connect to students on a deeper level. “We review résumés, make connections and recommendations in their career searches, and help to assure that they are prepared for success upon graduation.” Dr. Leggio, who joined the Loyola community in 2010, grew up Miami, Fla., and has lived in eight different states. She received her bachelor’s degree, MBA, and Ph.D. in Finance; her research focuses on mergers in deregulating industries.

The concept of reflection and the freedom at Loyola to discuss topics taboo at public institutions creates a better learning environment—and better prepares our students to succeed in both the for- and not-for-profit worlds.
