After graduating from Loyola in 2002, Angela Reynolds attended graduate school at the University of Pittsburgh (Advisor: G. Bard Ermentrout) and worked closely with a physician analyzing the acute immune response in multiple organ failure and lung inflammation.
In 2008, Dr. Reynolds joined the faculty at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in the Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics where she is an assistant professor. At VCU Angela collaborates with researchers in the medical school. Her current research focus is on modeling wound healing and inflammation caused by mechanical ventilation.
Angela has received a Jeffress Memorial Trust Grant (a Virginia based grant, approx. $31,000) for aspects of a wound healing project. In August, 2012 she was a co-principal investigator with other collaborators (in biomedical and mechanical engineering and emergency medicine) on an R-01 grant funded by the NIA (National Institute of Aging) for approximately $1.8 million for a project titled "Age Dependent Mechanical Ventilator-Induced Inflammation: Modeling & Experiments." This project uses experiments and modeling to analyze mechanical ventilator induced inflammation and to develop candidate ventilation protocols to minimize this inflammation in aged patients.
