to Dr. Kelly DeVries, History and Honors Program
for being named the 2008 Nachbahr Award winner

 This annual award recognizes outstanding achievement in scholarship or creative work by a faculty member in the humanities. It is named in honor of Bernard Nachbahr, a long-time and much beloved philosophy professor at Loyola and the first Director of the Center. His career exemplified a deep commitment to the civilizing power of the humanities. The awardee will deliver a public lecture during the weekend of Honors Convocation on the general theme of "The Life of the Mind"

A few of the Awards and Honors being bestowed upon our students as they are being announced this spring!

Elena DiRosa--Sigma Delta Pi (Spanish Honor Society), co-president Psi Chi (Psychology) Honors Society

Lisa Huston--PBK, Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Honor Society. She will be attending U of Texas at Dallas to pursue her doctorate in audiology.

Jomy Varghese--Mathematical Sciences Service Award, Mathematical Sciences Achievement Award, Induction into Pi Mu Epsilon (National Mathematics Honor Society), induction into Tri Beta (National Biological Honors Society).  He will be working at the Research Experience for undergraduates Summer Program in Computational Biology hosted by UMBC.

Tania Ziegler--placed first in the Business Formal Presentation portion of the Undergraduate Research and Scholarship Colloquium.

Jacqueline Davis--is in Alpha Sigma Nu (Jesuit Honors Society), Lambda Pi Eta (Communication Honors Society) and Pi Delta Phi (French Honors Society). She will be participating in Teach for America as an elementary school teacher in New York starting this fall.

Danielle Morrone--has been inducted into Tri Beta Honors Society and Psi Chi Honor Society. She also won an internship at Cornell Medical School for the summer.

Irene Murphy-- has been listed in Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities Honoree. Shehas been inducted into Alpha Sigma Nu (Jesuit Honor Society) ; Eta Sigma Phi (Classics Honor Society); A.L.I.V.E. Student Choice Award (for Action, Loyalty, Integrity, Values, and Excellence); Admitted into the Catholic University of America's MA program in Latin and Greek, with scholarship

Keelin Boyle-- received an award for Excellence in core Classes from the Modern Languages department

Jeffrey Malone--was inducted into Sigma Tau Delta (International English Honor Society)

Michael Paul-- accepted for the Hauber Summer Research Fellowship to work with Dr. Knapp investigating patterns in number sequences.

Sara Pollock-- besides being inducted in Phi Beta Kappa has  been inducted into Pi Delta Phi (French Honors Society), Alpha Kappa Delta (Sociology Honors Society) and will receive the French award at Academic Honors and Special Awards ceremony. She will be attending Temple university to pursue her doctorate in sociology.
