FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 30

Check In 
Andrew White Student Center Atrium
3:00-7:00 PM
Check in at the Andrew White Student Center Atrium, located outside of Boulder Garden Café. If you registered for any ticketed events, your Family Weekend registered tickets will be waiting for you.

Honors Convocation
Reitz Arena
5:00-6:00 PM

A Loyola tradition, the Honors Convocation highlights the University’s climate of learning with academic and essay awards to members of the sophomore, junior, and senior classes. The Loyola community proudly recognizes these students who have been nominated by faculty for their outstanding academic achievements. The academic affairs office will notify students who will receive an award. Please contact the academic affairs office directly with questions at 410-617-2261 or ceremonies@loyola.edu.

President's Welcome
McGuire Hall
6:00-7:00 PM

All families are invited to join University President, Rev. Brian F. Linnane, S.J., for a casual reception to open Family Weekend.  Father Linnane will provide brief remarks on the current state of Loyola and families will have the opportunity to meet deans, faculty, and other University administrators.  Light refreshments will be served.  Please register in advance for this no-cost event.

Shakespeare Performance TBD

A free performance presented by the American Shakespeare Center on Tour, a young and innovative troupe staging fast-paced shows that recreate for modern audiences Shakespeare's plays and other classics.

This 23rd annual breakfast hosts African, Latino, Asian, and Native American students and their families on the Evergreen campus. A separate invitation will follow. For more information, please contact ALANA services at 410-617-2310.

Please pick up your Family Weekend registered tickets in the Andrew White Student Center Atrium. For families arriving after 3 p.m., registered tickets will be available for pick-up at the entrance of each event requiring a ticket. Please look for a Student Activities staff member to assist you.

Gratias Ceremony

Loyola University Maryland will honor its distinguished student leaders in the 22nd annual Gratias Ceremony. Outstanding students will be recognized for their contributions in the areas of leadership and service. Students honored at Gratias will receive a separate notification from the office of student engagement.  Please contact the office of student engagement with any questions at 410-617-5675.

Parents Council Meeting

The Parents Council will host its leadership meeting prior to the men's soccer game at the Ridley Athletic Complex. This meeting is for members of the Parents Council. For more information on the Parents Council, contact parents@loyola.edu.

Picnic on the Quad

Join us on the Quad for a picnic-style luncheon.  The menu includes the following:  roasted suckling pig and pulled barbeque chicken served with assorted barbeque sauces and freshly baked slider rolls, three cheese mac and cheese, vegetarian brown sugar baked beans, roasted corn and tomato salad, Israeli cous cous salad with tri-colored peppers and arugula pesto, turkey and cranberry sauce on mini croissants, roast beef and boursin with caramelized onions on mini knot rolls, a vegetarian sandwich option, watermelon slices, assorted cookies, assorted soft drinks and bottled water. Ticket price TBD.

Visit Evergreen Museum & Library

Located next-door to Loyola and housed in a Gilded Age mansion surrounded by 26 acres of formal gardens and woods, Johns Hopkins University’s Evergreen Museum & Library is at once an intimate collection of fine and decorative arts, rare books, and manuscripts assembled by two generations of the philanthropic Garrett family, and a vibrant, inspirational venue for contemporary art. The collection counts among its many treasures post-Impressionist paintings, Chinese porcelain, Japanese lacquerware, a Léon-Bakst designed private theatre, and one of the largest private collections of Tiffany art glass. Enjoy special free guided tours (Noon; 1 p.m.; 2 p.m.; 3 p.m.) of the permanent collections. Parking is available on the premises.

Men's Soccer Game TBD

Tickets are required.  Tickets are free of charge for students and $3 for family members and should be requested while registering online in advance.  One ticket is good for BOTH soccer games (men's and women's).  Shuttle service to and from the game is available from the front of Newman Towers and at the Library beginning at 11 a.m.

Messina Teach-In
Loyola Notre Dame Library
2:00 - 4:00 PM  (Ice Cream Social from 2:45-3:15 PM in Flannery O'Connor Hall 2nd floor lobby)
Come experience what it is like to participate in a Messina seminar!  Messina will be sponsoring a Family Weekend Teach-In.  Messina faculty members will offer 45-minute class sessions that demonstrate how Loyola connects learning in and out of the classroom.  Sessions will be offered at 2:00 PM and 3:15 PM.  Messina will also sponsor a free ice-cream social in between the two sessions from 2:45-3:15 PM in the second floor lobby area of Flannery O’Connor Hall.

Visit the St. John's Bible Exhibit at the Library 
Loyola Notre Dame Library

Learn about the beautiful permanent exhibit of the handwritten, hand-illuminated St. John’s Bible in the Library with a trained docent. You can also see the library’s permanent exhibit of the 14th Century statue Virgin Mary Seated with Christ Child, which was researched and mounted by students in Dr. Kerry Boeye’s 2014 art history classes. Explore the library’s digital media/assistive technology lab, auditorium, group study rooms, great views, and comfortable seating while you are there!

A Night at the National Aquarium
National Aquarium in Baltimore, Inner Harbor
6:30 - 10:30 PM
Explore the wonders of underwater life, the seashore, marine mammals and the Land Down Under at one of Baltimore's signature attractions!  Loyola families will have the National Aquarium in Baltimore all to themselves.  Families are welcome to tour the Australia exhibit until 8:15 p.m., the Living Seashore Touch Experience until 9:30 p.m., the Marine Mammal Pavilion (dolphins) until 10:00 p.m., and the Blue Wonders exhibit until 10:30 p.m.  Best times to enter to view the exhibits is between 6:30 and 8:15 p.m.  Learn more about the National Aquarium at www.aqua.org.  Ticket price TBD.
