The NSSE (pronounced “nessie”) is a comprehensive, longitudinal survey, administered by the National Survey of Student Engagement team at Indiana University. This survey gathers information from first-years and seniors about college experiences, skills acquired during college, and students' academic and non-academic activities. For more information about NSSE at Loyola, please see below or contact survey@loyola.edu. Otherwise, learn more about the related Faculty Survey of Student Engagement (FSSE), which is administered to instructional faculty at the same time as when the NSSE is administered to students.

Loyola regularly participates in the NSSE, typically every three years (e.g., 2012, 2015, 2018). NSSE was not administered in 2021 due to COVID. In March 2024, all first-years and seniors at Loyola will be invited to participate in the NSSE. Your responses will inform and support evidence-based practice, decision-making, benchmarking, and strategic planning for continuous improvement of the undergraduate educational experience at Loyola - to help us level up!

• Participants that complete the survey will receive an exclusive T-shirt on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last. There are ~ 560 T-shirts available for ~ 2040 possible participants. See When & Where to Pick Up a T-shirt for details.
• The Messina class section with the highest percent participation will receive a pizza party (or equivalent celebration) - based on Messina students who complete the survey by April 15th. There are 74 Messina class sections, with an average of 16 students per section. If a tie between multiple sections occurs, then those will be entered into a random drawing to determine the winning section.
• Graduating seniors who complete the survey by April 15 will automatically be entered into a drawing for two extra Baccalaureate Mass tickets for seats inside Reitz Arena. (Each senior receives 2 guest tickets for Baccalaureate Mass tickets which takes place in Reitz Arena. Traditionally, any additional requested guest tickets are typically accommodated in overflow seating in McGuire Hall.) Your chances of winning depend on how many seniors complete the survey by April 15. About 340 seniors participated last time.
• Additionally, we will enter all students who complete the survey by April 15 into a drawing for 1 of 15 Loyola spirit wear items (~ $50 value each). Your chances of winning depend on how many students complete the survey by April 15. About 740 students participated last time.

• For any additional questions or resources (e.g., full size images), please contact survey@loyola.edu.
• Faculty with classes that are entirely made up of either first-years or seniors that plan to have their students complete the NSSE during class time (~15-20min) can email Tracey Frey (tdfrey@loyola.edu) so she can have t-shirts delivered in time for the class meeting.
