Proctored Placement Tests
The language requirement at Loyola is the 104 level. Students who place higher than the 104 level on Loyola’s language placement test may be exempt from the foreign language core requirement, pending confirmation from Loyola’s Modern Languages and Literatures department after a proctored on-site placement test. If you would like to seek the language core requirement exemption through the placement test, you must take the proctored, on-site placement test.
This test will be no more than 50 minutes. Students who receive the exemption will complete one additional free elective instead of the foreign language core requirement. In the case you do not place above the 104 level on the proctored, onsite test, the department and AASC will work together to place you into the proper level of a language class. We strongly recommend that you take the proctored, on-site placement test as early in your first year as your schedule allows. The proctored, on-site placement exam must be completed by the end of the fall semester in order to be eligible for exemption.
If you are happy with your level placement, there is no need to take the proctored test.
If you would like to review before the test, we recommend that you use these free online Refresher Courses.
Bring a photo ID, your Loyola ID#, and password with you when you come to take your placement test.
