Changes to Commencement for Spring 2027

We are excited to share some wonderful news about our 2027 Commencement. After much research and discernment, we will be bringing Loyola’s Commencement home to the Evergreen campus this spring.

Over the course of two days—Friday, May 14, and Saturday, May 15—we will hold four Commencement ceremonies. We will hold a special ceremony for graduate students Friday evening and then hold three ceremonies for those receiving bachelor’s degrees over the course of Saturday. We look forward to providing a more personalized, meaningful celebration for our students and their families.

Commencement in recent years has become so long that it is becoming a burden to our students and their families. The ceremony is also disconnected from the campus experience that shapes so much of the learning and growth that happens for our students. We have carefully considered multiple options before landing on this model, which is similar to approaches that many other institutions use with great success.

This spring, we will celebrate the exceptional Class of 2027 at this series of events in Reitz Arena on Loyola’s Evergreen campus:

  • Baccalaureate Mass
    12:30 p.m., Friday, May 14, 2027

Commencement Exercises for Students Receiving Psy.D. and Master’s Degrees
    Evening, Friday, May 14, 2027

Commencement Exercises for Students Receiving Bachelor’s Degrees in the Natural and Applied Sciences and Humanities
    Morning, Saturday, May 15, 2027

Commencement Exercises for Students Receiving Bachelor’s Degrees in the Social Sciences and in the School of Education
    Midday, Saturday, May 15, 2027

Commencement Exercises for Students Receiving Bachelor’s Degrees in the Sellinger School of Business and Management
Late afternoon, Saturday, May 15, 2027

We will provide more information as details are confirmed. We look forward to a beautiful, joyful, and campus-centered celebration for the Class of 2027.

Sincerely,

Cheryl Moore-Thomas, Ph.D., Provost and Senior Vice President

Terrence M. Sawyer, J.D., President
