What is Alpha Sigma Nu?
Alpha Sigma Nu is the most prestigious Honor Society of Jesuit Institutions of higher education. It is an international honor society founded in 1915. Alpha Sigma Nu honors students of Jesuit colleges and universities who distinguish themselves in scholarship, loyalty, and service. Student membership is conferred on not more that 4% of the junior and senior class. Graduate students need to have completed one-half of the requirements for their degree at the time of nomination.
Who is eligible to apply?
Juniors, seniors, and graduate students who are in the top 15 percent of their class and have a demonstrated record of service and loyalty to the Jesuit ideals of education.
If I apply in my junior year and am not accepted, can I re-apply as a senior?
Yes, if you meet the academic requirements, you will again be notified and invited to apply as a senior.
What are the benefits?
Lifelong membership, networks and collegiality with a remarkable group of people from all 30 Jesuit institutions in the US, plus one each in Korea and Canada. The society has an online member directory with 42,000 plus current names with contact information.
What is the cost of dues?
The one-time cost is $80 for a lifetime membership in Alpha Sigma Nu. This also includes your certificate, official pin, graduation medallion, induction photo, and Alpha Sigma Nu mailings for life. On-line payment is required.
When is the induction ceremony?
During Academic Excellence Weekend in the Spring (TBA) in the Loyola Alumni Chapel.
When will I know if I am accepted?
Final decisions will be made by the end of November.
Are there networking possibilities?
Yes, and they are improving regularly. ASN has 50,000 members throughout the world with current addresses for about 85% of them. Alumni may be located in the Alpha Sigma Nu Online Directory.
