Formatting Your Paper

Typed

Unless otherwise specified, formal papers must be typed in a 12-point font, double-spaced (except for indented quotations, which should be single-spaced), with one-inch margins and left-justified.

Title Page

A title page should be provided with all papers. Type the paper's title in capital letters in the center of the page. The author's name, course number, instructor's name, date of submission, and author's telephone number and/or e-mail address should be typed in a block in the lower right-hand corner.

Page Numbering

The first page of a paper should not be numbered, but each successive page should be numbered.

Stapled

Papers should be stapled in the upper left-hand corner. Paper clips and plastic folders are not acceptable.

Proofreading

Prior to submission, papers should be proofread carefully for grammar, spelling, and typographical errors. Papers with excessive mechanical errors are likely to be handed back unread and ungraded or partially read and failed.

Typography

All foreign words, as well as titles of books, newspapers, and magazines, should be italicized or underlined.
