Access to a Loyola Education: Scholarships & Financial Aid

“Strong truths well lived” is more than our motto. It’s the promise of our Jesuit tradition and values at work in the world. Today, we see around us compelling needs—young people deserving educational opportunity and communities searching for equity and justice. In response, we remain committed to fundraising effort to increase educational access and bring students’ capacity to learn, lead, and serve to the world in greater measure.

Crossing the Finish Line Scholarships

Students experience unanticipated financial hardships for many reasons. The loss of a parent’s job, their own reduced wages, or significant health challenges of a family member often create immediate threats to a student’s ability to persist at Loyola and graduate. We never want to lose students because of changed financial circumstances, especially in the last semester of their senior year, when there are limited financial aid options available for them.

Charm City Promise

As the Jesuit, Catholic university in Baltimore, Loyola is deeply committed to the people, the history, the culture, and the bright future that Baltimore and its student leaders hold. The Charm City Promise Program was established to recognize and support high-achieving students from Baltimore City public, charter, or Catholic high schools who demonstrate significant financial need.

Through this generous grant program, all eligible accepted students receive a financial aid award that meets 100% of their demonstrated need toward Loyola’s full direct cost of attendance.

This program positively impacts Loyola’s socioeconomic diversity, advances our mission, and strengthens our commitment to the city of Baltimore. Through the Loyola Charm City Pell Promise Program, which started as a pilot with students entering in fall 2021, we seek to enroll more high-achieving graduates from Baltimore City public, charter, and Catholic high schools.

Named Endowed Scholarships

From our founding, Loyola has wholeheartedly embraced our mission to serve and educate each and every deserving student. Scholarships are critical to ensure that Loyola can continue to attract these talented students from all backgrounds. The assistance that scholarships can provide is often the deciding factor between a student attending Loyola or choosing another institution.

The cost of a Loyola education, while comparable to our peer institutions, is a significant financial commitment for many families. More than 97% of Loyola students receive some form of financial assistance. Annual tuition, room, and board only cover 70% of the actual cost to educate each student. Like most universities, Loyola recognizes that significant increases in tuition cost are no longer an option. Our greatest financial challenge is funding these scholarships. Gifts to create an endowed scholarship can change lives like few other gifts can. Funded into perpetuity, there is no limit to the number of students who will earn the opportunity to receive a world-class Jesuit education from Loyola. Growing our scholarship endowment will strengthen Loyola’s reputation and enhance its ability to attract talented, deserving students from Baltimore, across the country, and beyond.

Immersion and Abroad Travel

Service immersion experiences and study abroad offer students extraordinary, transformational experiences that prepare them as global leaders with a deep understanding of the role they can play in their communities today and tomorrow. Gifts to these programs open doors for students to travel and expand the learning they’re receiving in and out of the classroom on the Evergreen campus.
