Access to a Loyola Education: Scholarships & Financial Aid

Charm City Promise

The Charm City Promise Program recognizes and supports high-achieving students from Baltimore City public, charter, or Catholic high schools who demonstrate significant financial need. This program positively impacts Loyola's socioeconomic diversity, advances our mission, and strengthens our commitment to the city of Baltimore. All eligible accepted students receive a financial aid award that meets 100% of their demonstrated need toward Loyola's total direct cost of attendance.

Named Endowed Scholarships

Loyola embraces its mission to serve and educate every deserving student. Endowed scholarships are critical to ensure Loyola can continue attracting talented students from all backgrounds. The assistance scholarships can provide often is the deciding factor between a student attending Loyola or choosing another institution.

While comparable to our peer institutions, the cost of a Loyola education is a significant financial commitment for many families. More than 99% of Loyola students receive some form of financial assistance. Annual tuition, room, and board only cover 70% of the cost to educate each student. Like most universities, Loyola recognizes that significant increases in tuition costs are no longer an option. Gifts to create an endowed scholarship—funded into perpetuity—can change lives like few other gifts can. There is no limit to the number of students who will earn the opportunity to receive a world-class Jesuit education from Loyola. Growing our scholarship endowment will strengthen Loyola's reputation and enhance its ability to attract talented, deserving students from Baltimore, across the country, and beyond.

Ignatius Scholars Program

The Ignatius Scholars Program (ISP) provides opportunities to students who identify as first-generation college students, demonstrate significant financial need, or come from diverse backgrounds. The program is for first-year students with strong academic promise, leadership abilities, and high professional aspirations.

ISP, which is co-sponsored by ALANA Services and the office of undergraduate studies, is comprised of a summer component (inclusive of academic enhancement workshops, connections to campus resources, community service, and acclimation to Loyola and Baltimore through social and cultural excursions and activities), participation in one of four pre-fall programs, and a fall component (inclusive of weekly academic advising, study hours, and group workshops). Each year, 30 scholars participate in this highly selective program to get a head start on their college career.

Loyola recognizes the impact an expanded ISP can have on our students. We seek to invite Charm City Promise recipients to apply, transforming it into a four-year program that strengthens student writing and math skills and smooths their transition to Loyola, brings students to campus earlier, offers them service opportunities and peer mentoring through ALANA services, and provides them with proactive advising with a student success coach. The program would also offer vocational/career discernment, stipends for internships or study abroad experiences, guidance for career exploration or graduate school applications, and networking and meetings with donors, alumni, and University leadership.

Rollins-Luetkemeyer Scholarship

Loyola is thankful to the Rollins-Luetkemeyer Foundation for its vision of helping middle-Income families have access to a high-quality education at the University.

The Rollins-Luetkemeyer Foundation believes children of middle-Income families should have access to quality education at a private university such as Loyola. The foundation is committed to scholarships and middle-income financial aid and has pledged $250,000 to support building the Rollins-Luetkemeyer Scholarship program at the University. Loyola will match the grant and double it, providing another $500,000 toward the scholarships. The grant will be awarded to Loyola at the end of the 2024 spring semester and will be awarded to students beginning the following fall semester. Students who are deemed academically qualified and whose families have an income between $75,000 and $150,000 per year will be considered for the scholarship.

Student Success Fund

Every student at Loyola deserves a chance to succeed. The Student Success Fund helps ensure that every deserving Loyola student—no matter their circumstance—will have the opportunity to complete a world-class Jesuit education at Loyola.

The Student Success Fund helps address urgent needs by providing grants to undergraduate and graduate students with financial and material needs—from clothing items, food security, laundry, printing for academic work, transportation, diagnostic services (particularly around learning disabilities), academic supplies, and textbooks. This assistance aids students who want to stay at Loyola but may be unable to do so due to changed financial circumstances.

Study Abroad and Immersion

Service immersion experiences and international programs offer students extraordinary, transformational experiences that prepare them as global leaders with a deep understanding of the role they can play in their communities today and tomorrow. Gifts to these programs open doors for students to travel and expand the learning they’re receiving in and out of the classroom on the Evergreen campus.

Evergreen Annual Fund

Gifts to the Evergreen Annual Fund help meet Loyola's most significant financial challenge: funding need-based financial aid for deserving students. With 99% of Loyola students receiving some form of financial aid—and most of that assistance provided by Loyola—support of the Evergreen Annual Fund is critical. Gifts to the Evergreen Annual Fund make a Loyola education possible and accessible to even more students. Donations to the Evergreen Annual Fund benefit talented Loyola students from various backgrounds, allowing Loyola to provide enhanced financial aid to serve a strong and diverse class of students.

Greyhounds Athletics Fund

Gifts to the Greyhounds Athletics Fund support the well-being of more than 400 Loyola Greyhound student-athletes. These gifts allow Loyola Athletics administration to invest in the areas of greatest need among its priorities. Academic support, sports medicine, and strength & conditioning exemplify how these donations to the Greyhounds Athletics Fund benefit Loyola student-athletes.
