Campus Locks

There are several different types of locking hardware throughout our campuses.  See how to secure all offices and classrooms below.

Campus Offices

Are you having problems with an office door not locking? Take a look at this video to see how a standard office lock works.

Please email keys@loyola.edu if you're having problems with a lock or keys. We will respond to your location as soon as we can.

Cylindrical Locks

The lock in the above video is a cylindrical lock with a lever handle. We also have some cylindrical locks with knob handles. The outside handle is locked by pushing in and rotating the inside button clockwise or by using a key on the outside handle.

Deadbolt Locks

Deadbolts are usually installed above the handle or knob and can be secured from inside the room by using the thumb turn.

Mortise Locks

A classroom mortise lock has an outside lever that can be secured by one of two buttons under the latch. Take a look at this video to see how it works.

In some locations, we have added a deadbolt with a thumb turn above the mortise locks which do not have the buttons under the latch.

Campus classrooms

Our classrooms have a combination of mortise, cylindrical, deadbolt and electrified locks. Electrified locks are monitored and controlled from our Public Safety dispatch center 24/7/365. All other classroom locks can be secured at the door from inside (cylindrical or deadbolt) or just under the latch (mortise).

Panic Hardware

Areas that hold larger groups of people have panic hardware installed on the doors. This hardware allows for ease of egress in the event of an emergency. We have installed additional locks on these panic bars so that the door can be locked from the inside. Turn the thumb latch clockwise until you hear the internal mechanism click. Take a look at the video below to see how the lock works in the Knott Hall Amphitheaters.
