Dismissal Hearings

All students who are dismissed from the University have the right to appeal their dismissal through a hearing. We understand that the reasons for poor performance are varied, and that many factors contribute to a student’s level of academic achievement. If you choose to appeal your dismissal, three faculty members and an administrative moderator from the Academic Standards Committee will meet with you to discuss your academic performance at a dismissal hearing. Based on this conversation, and evidence of your ability to successfully regain good academic standing, the committee will decide to either uphold the dismissal, move you to academic suspension, or place you on academic probation.

The academic dismissal appeal hearings for the spring 2023 semester will be held on Monday, June 5, 2023 through Wednesday, June 7, 2023, via zoom. Hearings will usually last between 30-50 minutes.

If you choose to appeal your dismissal, please complete these two action items no later than Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at 4:00pm EST:

ACTION ITEM 1:

Schedule your Dismissal Hearing Time and Day

You will receive a confirmation e-mail on Friday, June 2, 2023, that includes the zoom link for your hearing.

ACTION ITEM 2:

Complete the Dismissal Hearing Questionnaire and Return it to odugs@loyola.edu

The dismissal hearing questionnaire will be sent to the faculty members on the Academic Standards Committee in advance of your hearing. Your ability to reflect on these questions and to answer honestly will help us to decide on your potential as a student at Loyola. Failure to do so could negatively impact the course of your hearing and its outcome.

If you choose not to schedule an appeal hearing with the Committee, please confirm your intention by sending an e-mail to the Office of the Dean of Undergraduate Studies at odugs@loyola.edu by Wednesday, May 31 at 4:00pm EST.   If you do not respond by May 31, or if after your hearing, the Committee considers it unwise to grant probationary status to you, you will be academically dismissed from the University, and this will be reflected on your transcript.
