Summer Research

Research Scholarships and Grants- 2024 Offerings

Loyola faculty are scholar-teachers who constantly explore and examine questions in their field. This means that there may be occasions for students to collaborate with faculty on research projects and other scholarly pursuits. Loyola offers specific university-level programs in addition to possible individual faculty-student summer research experiences. If you are interested in exploring whether there is an opportunity that is right for you, please reach out to faculty in your area of interest to see what may be available.

Below, is a selection of potential research opportunities being offered in summer 2024. Please follow the provided links to their respective pages for more details.

Kolvenbach Research Grant

The Kolvenbach Research Grant was inspired by an October 2000 address by Rev. Peter Hans Kolvenbach, S.J., Loyola University Maryland. The grant offers students the opportunity to engage in socially fueled research in and around the Baltimore area. The programs goal is to both support Loyola's commitment to research and the institution's desire to serve the needs of the Baltimore community. Hauber Research Fellowship

Since 1988, a select group of undergraduates work side-by-side with faculty mentors from the six natural and applied science departments at Loyola University Maryland to conduct research in the students' area of interest. The Hauber Research Fellowship has been an opportunity for these select students to earn awards, co-author presentations and earn entry into professional or graduate school. Hauber Research Fellows are continually recognized for excellence in research during the annual Honors Convocation held on Family Weekend. For more information, please visit the Loyola College of Arts & Sciences.

Center for the Humanities

The Center for the Humanities offers students several opportunities for additional study and cultivation during the summer months.

Catholic Studies Program: The Catholic Studies Program (CSP) is offering summer research grant opportunities for undergraduate students of Loyola University Maryland. Each summer research grant is made in the amount of $4,000 for the student, with a stipend of $1,000 awarded to the faculty mentor for the research project.

Student Academic and Creative Grants: The Office of Peace and Justice at Loyola University Maryland offers grants to support undergraduates who wish to pursue advanced research, creative work, and professional development related to the promotion of peace and justice.

Annually, students that participate in these programs present their work and accomplishments in an event sponsored by the Center for the Humanities. To view links to the abbreviated versions of the students presentations, please browse the Celebrate the Humanities Past Presentations page.
