Campus Safety

Loyola University Maryland is committed to ensuring a safe and secure community.

These are just a few of the many steps we take every day to keep Loyola safe:

  • More than 40 sworn officers provide routine patrol and a state-of-the-art dispatch center for all emergency and non-emergency calls 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with the Baltimore City police department.
  • Free shuttle service to get students around campus. There is also an app to track the shuttles in real time which helps reduce wait time.
  • Provide student escort service and monitor program.
  • Offer personal safety programs on topics including preventing sexual assault, active shooter situations, fire safety, and more are offered throughout the academic year. Emergency reference guides and hazard information can also be found on the Emergency Preparedness website

Campus Safety and Security Systems

  • Greyhound Alerts notify the campus community of emergencies via text messages, emails, and an exterior public address system with voice instructions.
  • Security access control systems restrict access to residence halls and university buildings. Classrooms have a combination of mortise, cylindrical, deadbolt and electrified locks. Electrified locks are monitored and controlled from our Public Safety dispatch center 24/7/365. Areas that hold larger groups of people, like conference rooms, have panic hardware installed on the doors which allows for ease of egress in the event of an emergency.  These hardware items also allow the room to be locked from the inside.
  • Emergency phones equipped with one-touch dialing and designated by blue lights located in or within close proximity of parking lots and walkways. View campus map of Emergency phones (PDF).
  • More than 675 closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras are placed at strategic locations to monitor the campuses of the University.

*Security and Safety Programs are continuously updated to meet the University's ever-changing needs.
