Order of the Engineer: New Link in the Chain at Loyola

Students and faculty inducted to the Order of the Engineer pose at a table.

We are closing the academic year 2024/2025 with the usual flurry of events.  An exciting new event for the Engineering Department was our first induction of the Order of the Engineer.  Twenty-six graduating seniors and four Loyola Engineering Faculty were inducted into this new ‘link’ in the Order of the Engineer, while they were solemnly sworn in by three current member witnesses.   We know this is the start of a beautiful tradition.  More about the Order can be found on their website.

As they state, the “Order of the Engineer was initiated in the United States to foster a spirit of pride and responsibility in the engineering profession, to bridge the gap between training and experience, and to present to the public a visible symbol identifying the engineer.”

The oath that one takes in becoming a member is similar to the Hippocratic oath taken by doctors. One pledges “to uphold the standards and dignity of the engineering profession and to serve humanity by making the best use of Earth’s precious wealth.”

Congratulations again to the new Order of the Engineer inductees!
