Graduate Application Requirements

The sections below contain helpful details about the graduate application process at Loyola University Maryland. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact our office for more information.

Application Deadlines and Materials

Graduate programs at Loyola University Maryland set their own application deadlines. Applicants should review the graduate application requirement webpages to ensure that they are familiar with those deadlines.

Applicants are responsible for ensuring that their completed application, along with all necessary supplemental materials, is received by the applicable deadline. All required admission materials must be submitted as instructed on the website. Applications which remain incomplete after stated deadlines may be withdrawn from consideration.

Application Fee

Loyola requires a $60 non-refundable graduate application fee.* However, application fees are automatically waived for the following applicant groups:

  • Loyola students, alumni, employees, or spouses of employees
  • Applicants who have attended graduate program Information Sessions**
  • Veterans or active duty members of the U.S. military
  • McNair Scholars
  • AmeriCorps participants
  • Jesuit Volunteer Corps participants
  • Peace Corps participants
  • Jesuit MBA/JEBNET applicants
  • Applicants who are applying through partnership agreements between Loyola and their undergraduate college/university

*Speech-Language Pathology applicants are exempt from Loyola's application fee but are required by CSDCAS to pay the CSDCAS application fee. Loyola does not have the ability to waive CSDCAS application fees.

**Applicants who have already paid the application fee will not be eligible for a refund if they subsequently attend an information session.

Transcript/Academic Record requirements

U.S. Colleges and Universities

Applicants must submit official transcripts from any college or university where they have earned or will be earning a degree. If the graduate program requires prerequisite coursework, applicants must submit any transcripts which include those prerequisites, regardless of whether a degree was earned at that school. Applicants are also encouraged to submit transcripts for any other coursework relevant to the graduate program to which they are applying. The admission committee reserves the right to request additional transcripts from colleges or universities where an applicant attended but did not complete a degree. Please note that not submitting all transcripts where courses have been completed could impact course waivers if applicable.

We strongly recommend that all applicants have their schools send us official electronic transcripts if possible. If your school uses an automated transcript request service, please select "Loyola University Maryland" as the receiving institution, and be sure to select "Graduate" or "Graduate Admission" as the receiving office. If your school does not use an automated transcript request service but will send an official transcript via email from their Registrar/Records office, have the transcripts sent to graduate@loyola.edu. Electronic transcripts sent to us by the applicant as email attachments are not considered official.

If your school is unable to provide electronic transcripts of any kind, your official transcript must be sent to us by mail in an envelope sealed by the school. Our mailing address can be found on the Graduate Admission webpage. Please note that it will take additional time for us to receive and process official transcripts sent to us by mail.

International Academic Records

Loyola University Maryland requires that all international (non-U.S.) academic records be evaluated by an academic record evaluation service and submitted to the Office of Graduate Admission and Financial Aid for review. The evaluation must be sent to our office directly from one of the following evaluation services:

In addition to the international evaluation, applicants must also send scanned copies of all of their original international academic records (including diplomas, degree documents, and university verifications, etc.) to graduate@loyola.edu. Each college/university record must be scanned as a single PDF document - do not send separate attachments for each page. Be sure to include "International Academic Records" in the subject line of the email.

English Language Examination Requirements

Applicants are required to submit official English language examination scores unless they have earned or will be earning a bachelor's (or higher) degree from either:

*Applicants who attended a college or university in Puerto Rico are still required to take the exam.

**If English is not the sole language of instruction listed, or if no language of instruction is listed, or if your college/university is not included in WHED, you will be required to submit English language examination scores.

Note: Applicants to either of the M.Ed. in Literacy graduate programs are exempted from the English language examination requirements due to other admission requirements of the programs demonstrating English language fluency.
