Community Engagement Workshop
Wednesday, May 17, 2023 - 9am-3:30pm with happy hour to follow
Location: Loyola Notre Dame Library
Each May, Loyola hosts an all-day workshop to reinvigorate community-engaged learning and scholarship in Baltimore. This event is an opportunity to collaborate with colleagues from across the area and imagine new possibilities for university-community partnerships. The workshop is open to faculty and community-engagement learning professionals from other universities as well as community partners.
This year’s theme is “Centering Advocacy & Activism in Education.” We will explore ways of designing courses and research agendas in a way that prioritizes social change. There will be opportunities for community members and university members to collaborate with one another and envision specific projects for the future. Note: Loyola faculty are encouraged to apply for CCSJ’s Course Development Grants as part of this process.
Our workshop will feature Dr. Randy Stoecker, who has been a nationally-recognized leader in community engagement for decades. Dr. Stocker is Professor of Community and Environmental Sociology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and he conducts trainings and speaks on community organizing and development, participatory action research/evaluation, higher education community engagement strategies, and community information technology. He has facilitated numerous participatory action research projects and written extensively on community organizing and development and higher education engagement with community.
