Sellinger School Dean Mary Ann Scully receives Lifetime Achievement Award

Mary Ann Scully, dean of the Sellinger School

Mary Ann Scully, MBA ’79, dean of Loyola University Maryland’s Sellinger School of Business and Management, will receive the 2022 CEO of the Year Lifetime Achievement Award from the Baltimore Business Journal. The award recognizes “executives who have had great success and made their mark professionally, and in the Greater Baltimore community, over a number of decades,” according to the journal.

Prior to joining Loyola in July, Scully co-founded Howard Bank and served as its chairman and CEO until the bank was sold. During her 18 years of leadership with the bank, she grew its assets from $17 million to $2.6 billion. Previously, she worked in key leadership and management roles for First National Bank of Maryland, later Allfirst Financial, leading the firm in its international growth, driving strategic planning and business development, and building key partnerships.

“During her nearly 50-year career, Scully has become one of the most dynamic business leaders in Greater Baltimore, serving on multiple local boards and as an expert in her field,” according to the Baltimore Business Journal, which will honor Scully at a reception at The Center Club in Baltimore Sept. 8.

Scully earned her MBA in Finance from Loyola in 1979 and has a bachelor’s in American studies from Seton Hill University in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. She has served on boards of many local nonprofits and educational institutions. She is currently vice chair of the Greater Baltimore Committee and serves on the boards for the Enoch Pratt Free Library, Mount St. Joseph High School, and the Inner Arbor Trust.

“I can’t think of anyone more deserving of the Baltimore Business Journal’s Lifetime Achievement Award than Mary Ann,” said Terrence M. Sawyer, J.D., president of Loyola. “Her business achievements in Baltimore span decades, and the breadth of experience she brings to the Sellinger School truly benefits our students. We couldn’t be prouder of her and all she has accomplished as a leader in the community.”

At Loyola, Scully has served as a trustee and member of the Sellinger Board of Sponsors. She is highly acclaimed as a community leader throughout the region, gaining several recognitions such as being named a Henry Rosenberg Distinguished Citizen, a member of The Baltimore Sun’s Business and Civic Hall of Fame, the Baltimore Museum of Industry’s Industrialist of the Year, and a member of The Daily Record’s Inaugural Power 100, Influential Marylanders, and Top 100 Women, and American Bankers’ National 25 Women to Watch.
