  • Class of2022

  • ProgramEducational Technology

Born and raised in Baltimore County, Ian received his bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education at Loyola and decided to return to earn a graduate degree in Education Technology, also through the School of Education. His career as an educator in Maryland spans 20 years, working as a teacher in Baltimore County Public Schools and, for five years, as a consulting teacher with their Peer Assistance and Review program; most recently, he became a resource teacher in the division of organizational effectiveness. Ian appreciates Loyola’s partnership with BCPS to offer learning cohorts like the master’s program in Educational Technology. “This program has helped me to expand my professional learning network and made the degree accessible from financial and time management standpoints.” During the pandemic, Ian felt incredibly well prepared to transition to virtual learning. “The program went well beyond understanding how to use different tools and technology. It helped me understand how to truly facilitate online learning, and I helped many of my client teachers adapt. Loyola is preparing me to be the best educator I can be.”

Being a teacher goes hand in hand with the Jesuit ideal of being a person for others. Teachers work in a service, care-based industry that helps others grow at the most malleable point in their lives.
