Immersion Program Support
The Office of Peace and Justice is currently awarding grants that support Loyola faculty to develop both domestic and international immersion programs that significantly promote P&J minor learning aims.
Eligibility
- Faculty must teach at least one course that counts towards the P&J minor in order to be eligible for immersion program funds.
- Applications are welcome from tenured, tenure-track, and full-time clinical and teaching faculty across all academic disciplines at Loyola University Maryland.
Funding
- Funding may be used for costs related to exploratory trips or immersion programs.
- Funding may be used for honorarium for community partners working with students. Ordinarily, funds may not be used for honorariums for program directors.
- Other reasonable expenses that would significantly enhance student learning of P&J minor learning aims.
Application Requirements
- A narrative (not exceeding 1,000 words) outlining the proposed immersion program, major themes explored, how the immersion program advances the P&J minor learning aims, a timeline for the immersion program development, students who are eligible to apply, and other funding received.
- A brief email or letter of support from the department chair. For international immersion experiences, a brief letter of support from the dean of international programs should be included too.
Evaluation of Applications
- Applications will be evaluated in terms of how well the application fulfills the above requirements.
- Consideration will be given to how the immersion program will advance P&J learning aims, the likelihood of recruiting new P&J minors, or how the program enhances experiential learning for current P&J minors.
Submissions
-
Applications are considered on a rolling basis. The steering committee meets monthly.
-
Applications should be submitted electronically to the Director, Office of Peace and Justice, Dr. Heidi Shaker, at hcshaker@loyola.edu.
