Data Science Focus

The goal of the data scientist is to perform analyses and make predictions based on disparate sources of data. There is an explosive growth of data science techniques being applied to many fields of physics. Employers seek Loyola graduates who have technical skills and communications skills.

The requirements for the data science in physics focus are as follows:

  • DS 303 Discovering information in data
  • ST 210 Intro to statistics or ST 265 Biostatistics or EC 220 Business statistics
  • PH 388 Independent project in physics (project on data science in physics)
  • Three courses chosen by student in consultation with a physics professor

CS 151 Computer science through programming (Python) is taken as part of the physics foundation courses.
