Getting Loyola Ready for the next stage of your career

As a student enrolled in one of our MBA, MAcc, or other Master’s programs, you’re honing your expertise and making connections that are preparing you for senior-level responsibilities. You’ll be in demand not only for your professional skills, but for the time-tested, Jesuit preparation in ethics, leadership, and communicating with others.

Our University’s approach to career services is grounded in the philosophy that we all cycle through stages of Self-Discovery, Exploration, Preparation, and Active Pursuit through the course of our professional lives.

You may have an exact idea of how you’ll apply your graduate degree in the world. Maybe you are still considering a variety of possible next steps. Either way, we’re ready to help you design and pursue your career goals. And when you walk across that graduation stage, you’ll be more than ready—Loyola Ready—to succeed in whatever your next career adventure will be.

Below are some specific ways we support our graduate students with career-related offerings. See a more detailed introduction to our 4 phase approach.

Self-Discovery

Emotional Quotient Inventory 2.0

EQ-I 2.0 is the world’s leading assessment tool used for assessing emotional and social intelligence and an excellent way to understand your emotional competencies. Several times a year, Career Services offers group workshops exclusively for current graduate students to understand emotional intelligence and debrief the assessment (pre-work online required). Check out our events page to see upcoming dates and register in Handshake.

Strong Interest Inventory

One of the most popular and longest-used career assessments, the Strong helps you explore potential educational, career, and leisure activities matched with your preferences in a variety of areas. The Strong is a powerful tool at any stage in one’s career and complimentary for all Loyola graduate students. The inventory will be debriefed with you by one of our team’s certified Strong practitioners. Make an appointment in Handshake today to get started.

Myers-Briggs Type Indicator

This introspective self-report questionnaire identifies differing psychological perspectives and preferences in how people perceive the world and their surroundings. It has been used by the majority of Fortune 500 corporations and can help you better understand your leadership style and fit with different types of teams and career paths. Like the Strong, the MBTI will be debriefed with you by one of our team’s certified practitioners. Make an appointment in Handshake today.

Exploration

Sellinger Mentor Program (Sellinger graduate students only)

Each graduate student has the option of being paired with an executive mentor to provide career insights, professional advice, and guidance while navigating their program.

Loyola Connect

Loyola Connect is our University’s central hub for students, alumni, parents, and friends of Loyola to find each other and reach out for conversations about career paths, industry-specific resume tips, job shadowing, and much more. As a graduate student, you both receive advice and volunteer to help our undergraduate students and young alumni. Get to know Loyola Connect and sign-in or create a Loyola Connect account today.

Preparation

Professional Webinar Lunch Series

Several times a year, Career Services invites expert speakers on topics like salary negotiation, leadership, industry-specific insights, and more to join us for a webinar presentation and discussion. These webinars are scheduled between 12:00 and 1:00 PM to maximize convenience for your schedule. Visit our events page for upcoming topics.

Resume Content

Having an appropriate resume for particular industries and levels of experience is critical for getting into the interview stage. We have a growing number of sample resumes available like the ones below and can help you find more niche examples.

Big Interview Practice Software

Loyola is proud to partner with Big Interview to make their proven, step-by-step system of interview prep and practice available to Loyola students. The platform combines expert video lessons and an interactive interview practice tool to help you compete for the most coveted internships and jobs. Get started today.

Executives in Residence

Loyola has a group of highly experienced executives from various areas of business on our full-time teaching faculty. Learn more about each of our Executives in Residence. Limited appointments with each of them are available each week in the Career Center through Handshake

Active Pursuit

Networking Events

Career Services and a variety of partners on campus host networking events for current students and alumni to gather throughout the year. These are all listed on our events page. In particular, keep an eye out for the Sellinger Speed Networking event each year, an opportunity for graduate students to travel around the room and spend time with executive-level alumni and other professionals in a speed dating format.

Career Fairs

While many people view college career fairs as only for undergraduates, they are phenomenal opportunities to meet alumni and recruiters seeking talent for top companies in our region. Particularly popular with our business students is Meet the Firms, our annual September fair for accounting, finance, and other business roles. Our events page has a dedicated window for upcoming fairs. Plus, you can research each attending company in depth beforehand using Handshake.
