Anti-Racism/Anti-Bias Statement

The Study’s mission is to help all students at Loyola be successful, independent learners. This mission is at the heart of what we do, and we are committed to appreciating and valuing our students’ diversity. This statement came from listening to the needs and concerns of students at Loyola. It is an ever-evolving statement that is sensitive to possible changes in students’ needs. It also reflects our belief in the importance of an anti-racism/anti-bias statement that is based on an action-focused process.

Working under a social justice model, our department seeks to give all students access to academic support services, so they can thrive at Loyola. Rooting this commitment in Loyola’s core Jesuit values, we pledge to strengthen the relationship between them by taking the following actions:

  • Valuing all members of our community and celebrating that we all come from different backgrounds.
  • Requiring our staff to complete training on diversity, equity, and inclusion to better understand and support our various communities.
  • Encouraging our staff to participate in additional trainings and other activities offered by the University that support a constant challenge to improve.
  • Holding our staff accountable through open and honest communication and growth-focused learning opportunities.
  • Increasing our recruitment and hiring efforts to reach more diverse applicants for student jobs and leadership opportunities within our department.
  • Embracing intersecting identities, including race, sex, socioeconomic status, neurodiversity, disability, age, sexual orientation, religion, cultural/ethnic background, immigration status, and others.
