Loyola’s Sellinger School launches supply chain major

Loyola University Maryland’s Sellinger School of Business and Management will launch a Bachelor of Business Administration in Supply Chain Management this summer. The new program will prepare students to manage the efficient and effective flow of products, services, and information within and among organizations.
“In the volatile and increasingly complex environment we find ourselves navigating on a daily basis, all business leaders have learned the need for expertise in both anticipating and proactively managing the entire ‘chain’ of product, people, and data flow. A world that has faced COVID, recurring natural disasters, and bridge collapses reinforces this need,” said Mary Ann Scully, MBA ’79, dean of Loyola’s Sellinger School. “A university like Loyola, headquartered in a major port city at the critical intersection of rail, road, and air transportation hubs, is uniquely situated to give students familiarity with and experience in supply chain management.”
The new supply chain management major will provide students with the knowledge and technical skills to improve processes and supply chain operations by applying technology, analytical and reflective thinking, and quantitative and qualitative tools. The curriculum also stresses innovation and collaboration to help prepare graduates for leadership roles in a global industry.
Coursework will cover topics including business statistics, data analytics and information systems, supply chain and operations management, global supply chain strategy and sourcing, logistics, and project management.
“Today’s supply chain leaders must be agile, data-informed decision-makers always grounded in ethics, because these decisions affect not just the business but their customers, communities, and the planet. A business school grounded in a Jesuit liberal arts university demands and fosters that,” Scully said. “Our new program reflects the Sellinger School’s values-driven approach to business with a curriculum that has been deeply informed by industry, so graduates are prepared to proactively and knowledgeably lead.”
This represents the fifth new major introduced in the Sellinger School of Business to complement the eight existing programs, which “ensure a robust and relevant array of options to prepare our students for both career success and lifelong impact,” Scully said.
