Unplugged LogoWhat is Loyola Unplugged?

Loyola Unplugged is an annual energy reduction competition hosted through Campus Conservation Nationals(CCN). CCN is the largest electricity and water reduction competition for colleges and universities in the world. CCN gives a common voice and motivation to hundreds of thousands of students across North America, all working together to reduce consumption and mitigate the impacts of climate change.

How You Can Get Involved

The best way to get involved is to compete to reduce the most during the competition period and encourage your neighbors to join you! Not sure how to do it? Check out our digital signage for energy savings tips or check out the list below.

  • Turn off lights when not in use
  • Only wash FULL loads of clothes and dishes
  • Wash clothes and dishes on cold and air dry 
  • Set your thermostat to a moderate temperature
  • Unplug electronics that are not in use
  • Take shorter showers, avoid taking baths
  • Use natural light from your window

 

2015 Competition

Loyola reduced their electricity consumption by 60,094 kWh, an average reduction of 10.1% overall. These figures put Loyola in the Top 40 Reducers. Aquinas was our winning residence hall, reducing their consumption by 31.5%, followed closely by Ahern at 30.4% and McAuley by 29.7%. Electricity savings from the competition translates to 77,701 pounds of carbon dioxide equivalent averted from the atmosphere. 

2014 Competition

Loyola finished in the top 10 out of 109 participating schools and saved more than 130,000kWH of electricity. Claver Hall finished first with a 55.7% energy reduction, followed by Tantallion Court and Gallagher Court.
