Writers at Work: Jean Lee Cole and Nguyen Khoi Nguyen

Jean Lee Cole is a Professor of English at Loyola University Maryland. She is the author of How the Other Half Laughs: The Comic Sensibility in American Culture, 1895-1920 (forthcoming, 2020) and The Literary Voices of Winnifred Eaton: Redefining Ethnicity and Authenticity (2002) and the editor or co-editor of several books, including Zora Neale Hurston: Collected Plays (2008) and Freedom’s Witness: The Civil War Correspondence of Henry McNeal Turner (2013). She was awarded Loyola's Nachbahr Award for scholarship in the humanities in 2017.
Nguyen Khoi Nguyen is a multi-disciplinary artist and educator. He is the author of the multimedia graphic novel, The Gulf, which includes original drawings, music and animation. He is the vocalist, pianist, composer and bandleader of the jazz trio: Superior Cling. Nguyen is currently a digital media lecturer at Loyola University Maryland. He teaches video, graphics, multimedia storytelling, and motion graphics courses. He served as the senior video producer/editor at Science Magazine and was a high school teacher at Georgetown Day School, Washington D.C. He has been awarded three American Graphic Design Awards, was a Strathmore Fine Artist in Residence, and a Thomas J. Watson Fellow.
