Natural Sciences Funding

American Association for the Advancement of Science - Science and Technology Policy Fellowships: Supports fellowships with the purpose of improving public policymaking through the infusion of science, and to increase public understanding of science and technology.

American Association of University Women: Provides fellowships for scholars in the arts and humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and business.

American Chemical Society: Offers support for basic research on or about petroleum in the following disciplines: chemistry, the earth sciences, chemical and petroleum engineering, and in related fields such as polymers and materials science. Deadlines vary depending on project period.

American Philosophical Society - Franklin Research Grants Program: Provides grants to support research-related expenses to scholars in all academic disciplines. 

The Chemical Heritage Foundation Fellowships: Offers several different long- and short-term fellowships related to chemical and molecular sciences.

The Camille and Henry Dreyfus Foundation: Provides grants for faculty to conduct research in chemistry, chemical engineering, and related sciences. Deadlines vary.

HHMI Science Education Alliance (SEA): Offers programs that engage undergraduate students in authentic scientific discovery early in their academic careers.

John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship: Offers fellowships to assist research and artistic creation for advanced professionals in all fields (natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, creative arts) except the performing arts.

National Academies: Supports several fellowship programs in science, engineering, and medicine for both early career and mid- to late-career scholars. Deadlines vary.

National Aeronautics and Space Administration: Offers research funding in space and earth sciences. Deadlines vary.

National Institutes of Health: Offers fellowship and funding opportunities for a wide range of medical and behavioral research. Deadlines vary.

National Science Foundation: Funds research and education in most fields of science, engineering, and the social sciences. Deadlines vary.

Research Corporation: Supports several grant programs providing research funding for faculty in the sciences. Deadlines vary.

Sloan Research Fellowships - Alfred P. Sloan Foundation: Awards fellowships to outstanding young faculty members in various fields of the sciences. Nomination required. Deadline: Sept. 15, for nominations.

The John Templeton Foundation: Funds research in the natural sciences, human sciences, philosophy, theology, free enterprise, gifted education, and world religions. Deadlines vary.

U.S. Department of Energy: Offers various funding opportunities in the fields of basic energy sciences, high energy physics, nuclear physics, advanced scientific computing research, fusion energy sciences, biological and environmental research, and planning and analysis. Deadlines vary.
