Touch of Freedom School

Introducing: Touch of Freedom School

Dr Kaye and Dr Darnell Lamar Shields with students of the Touch of Freedom School in the Loyola Notre Dame Library

Touch of Freedom School is a FREE, adult Black History learning series. Sessions take place on Saturdays in January and February. The series provides a safe space for adults to learn about Black History and ask questions to further their knowledge. A range of community leaders and professionals with experience in education, storytelling, Black History, holistic practices, and health will teach throughout the program.

Touch of Freedom School is part of the Karson Institute for Race, Peace & Social Justice founded by Dr. Karsonya "Kaye" Wise Whitehead.

Students are expected to attend 80% of the classes. Participants receive a certificate of completion at the end of the program.

Thank you to our sponsors ASALH and the Mellon Foundation for making this learning experience free for our community!
